Geisha’s Note

Geisha's Note
Geisha’s Note

A secret, a note, a geisha in a moment, a time, in a feeling, a sweep – caught in the golden light of a night in Tokyo.

Jumping Koi Sea

"Jumping Koi Sea"
“Jumping Koi Sea”

How this piece was created: Made up of three 16″x20″ canvases, this is the first painted set that I have created. It captures a scene of two wild koi jumping in the sea in front of Mt. Fuji. I painted with acrylic and then did outlines with permanent marker.

White Trees

“White Trees”

How this piece was created: It started as a sketch, as a study on how colors compliment each other. I had something particular in mind, and I wanted to test it out to find an answer. I then used acrylic on canvas, but it was definitely not turning out how I planned, and it went through many changes and additions until it was something else entirely. Finally, I took pictures and brought it onto the computer, where I intended on changing color and contrast, which drastically altered the image even more.

Stirring Serpent Depths

"Stirring Serpent Depths"
“Stirring Serpent Depths”

Stirring in the depths…  Escape, cold blue land of fear…  Will at last, appear…

How this piece was created: Squirt on some blue, streak it around, put on some yellow, and a bit of white. Take a knife and go crazy. Have a person pour water from a tea kettle on it. Smear it all up and around, taking care to blend the colors in a proper manner. Don’t know what you’re doing until the canvas is 3/4 covered. Shapes emerge, ideas spark; build off that, until you have something that looks like something. Dramatically place a figure for focus, a mysterious creature for story; all the while placing yourself in this created world of color…
